The Beginning of Trendy Tribal Tattoos

Tattoos have been used by people as symbols of self expression or belonging to a group since the dawn of humanity. These first tattoos were applied using sharp sticks that were forced under the skin after being dipped in ashes.

When this wound had healed over, a permanent mark remained on the skin. Centuries ago, tattoos were applied to the skin for a variety of reasons. A tribal tattoo usually refers to the kind of tattoo that's seen today that resembles the tattoos of the past that were black marks that described any number of things. Some tattoos represented belonging to a specific group or having taken part in a special occurrence like a hunt for creatures, mythological or real. Some of these tribal tattoos described the relationship between humankind and the moon, sun, or elements.

Magical, spiritual, or religious beliefs were also expressed using tattoos. The tattooed body of a Bronze Age man was found, proving that tattoos were in use over 5,000 years ago.

He was found frozen in a glacier in Italy. On close examination, researchers found that his body was covered with intricate tattoos of mythical creatures. Tribal tattoos link us to humanity throughout the ages, mythical characters that we identify with, cultures, and animals.

Today's tribal tattoos related to different cultures such as Tahitian, Asian, Celtic, Pagan, Inuit, Eskimo, Polynesian, Samoan, Hawaiian, African, Indigenous, and Native American, and more.

Most tribal tattoo designs are applied using only black ink or black ink with a bit of shading in white or grey. Color can be used in a tribal design, but its used very sparingly if its used at all. Tribal tattoos have become very popular and can be worn on nearly any part of the body.

Most often they're on the back and arms. Tattoo shops usually have lots of tribal flash, or designs that you can choose from. You can also look through tattoo magazines, on tattoo websites and even in articles and reports about tattoos found on ancient people.

If you're feeling creative, you can incorporate a tribal design with other elements. For example, if you're a tiger according to Chinese astrology and are also interested in tribal cultures, you could get a tattoo of a tiger with a black tribal design surrounding it, or running through it.

A skilled tattoo artist will know how to incorporate the elements you choose and create a design that unique. There versatility of tribal tattoos, paired with the feeling of being connected that they convey make tribal tattoos popular for tattoo collectors or the person that plans on having a single tattoo.
