Nets' Williams May Be Done For Season

By Daniel Scott

New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams has been bothered by a tense right wrist even before his trade from the Utah Jazz. His damage went from bad to worse on Friday night when he aggravated it in a 110-95 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks while driving to the basket late in the third quarter. He remained in the game, but afterwards confesses that he may be done for the season since the simply thing that will make his wrist better is rest.

The Nets failed to cover in the lopsided loss which fallen their record against the NBA line to 32-35 on the season. The Bucks improved to 33-34-1 versus the spread. The 205 points scored went well OVER the posted total of 178'. New Jersey has a fairly even Over/Under tally with a 34-33 evidence but the Bucks are not only one of the lowest scoring teams in the leagues but one of the powerful UNDER plays-Milwaukee has played only 24 OVERs in 68 total games this season (42 UN, 2 push).

Williams spoke to the Bergen County (NJ) Record newspaper after the game and didn't sound the least bit positive:

"I love playing basketball. I hate sitting out. I hate missing games. It's tough for me because I wouldnt like sit out. It might be the top thing, but we'll see how it goes."

"I can't shoot. I believe about it every time I take a shot. It concerns me mentally and it's weighing on me."

"I need to rest. Until I do that, it's going to hurt and I'm going continue to be frustrated. This is affecting me so much mentally now. It's frustrating."

"I like going up against top point guards. I like matchups. I like to do well in those matchups. I've had a tough time doing that because I can't play my game. It's frustrating but I'm ready to get healthy and get back to being me."

Depending on who your speaking to, Williams will need somewhere between 3-4 weeks (his assertion) and 4-6 weeks (Coach Avery Johnson's version) to fully recover from the injury. In either case, that just about takes it to the end of the NBA regular season and with the Nets slipping out of playoff contention means that Williams may very well be finished for the year. New Jersey will play on the road against the Washington Wizards on Sunday before returning home to take on the Indiana Pacers on Monday.
