When you are in high school, a lot of big decisions have to be made. As teenagers, it?s a scary thought that one day you will have to start acting like adults with boring jobs just to pay bills. However, it doesn?t have to be like that?especially if you choose a career in 3D Animation.

This is a career where you get to have a lot of fun by just bringing your own creative ideas to life. It?s something that is used in many different aspects, such as video games, music videos, television shows and movies. For example, if you have watched movies like ?Up? and ?Shrek?, these are movies that require the vast knowledge of 3D animators instead of actors. Can you imagine designing video games for a living? With 3D animation, you can easily turn your favorite pastime into an amazing and well-paying career. The next question is obvious: what kind of education is necessary? What do you need to have your dream job?

There are different universities and colleges that offer a variety of programs, all ranging in different duration times. In cities like Kelowna, BC and Halifax, NS?all located in Canada?you can earn a diploma in 3D animation in as little as 2 years. In these programs you will learn modeling, computer animation, cinematography, character design and so many more fun and interesting courses. Like most things you can do in life, there is always a little bit of natural talent needed in order to really excel at such a career. For example, if you have trouble navigating programs on a computer or if your drawings are that of stick men, you may want to avoid a career in 3D animation.

If you know early on that this is something you want to do, it would be a great idea to start a portfolio of your work. This is something that employers love to see; after all, your resume will get you the interview, the portfolio might get you the job. If you haven?t started one as of yet, it?s never too late. Designing video games and movies aren?t the only thing you could do with a degree in 3D animation. You could also design book covers for a variety of different genres. If you have a favorite author, just think of how amazing it would be to have a chance at designing the cover to their next book!

As you can see, a career in 3D animation is something that is easily achieved?you can really get paid to play!
