Some Of The Latest Cambodian News

By Zelma Hurley

News and current affairs are a way of keeping people informed of the current status of their country economically, politically, socially, and in terms of health. The information they get can be used in schools or simply as an addition to knowledge stored. In short, information can make the lives of the citizens better somehow.

Cambodia is one of the developing countries in Southeast Asia. It is known for its rich culture and environment. Because of this, they have advanced in the tourism industry which have improved their economic condition. Cambodian news has all these developments and then some bad news that people hear daily.

The good news is that tourism has grown and the industry keeps on booming. More tourists are attracted by the beauty of nature, vistas, and people. There are a lot of reasons why tourists like to stay in Cambodia. They have good food, unique styles of clothing, and friendly people.

Still one of the latest reports related to Cambodia is the plan of the United States first lady, Michelle Obama, to visit the country. This is to promote education especially for girls. She is set to go to Tokyo, Japan first before coming to Siem Reap, Cambodia. The aim of the US and the United Nations in this initiative is to reduce the number of uneducated girls all over the world.

On the health and social news, on the other hand, there is a disturbing two hundred plus cases of HIV in one district in Cambodia. It was reported that an unlicensed physician has made these citizens suffer by using and reusing infected medical equipment on the residents. This is a very striking bad story especially because the government is still finding ways to reduce the HIV cases in the country.

Another report is about the case of malaria. It has been reported that the victims of the disease have become immune to the drug called artemisinin. They are still finding ways how to cure the patients who have malaria. The same case is experienced in some areas of Myanmar and India.

It is no doubt that the country is making a lot of economic progress these days. But the presence of social problems like poverty and unemployment still threaten the advancement of Cambodia into the world market. These issues, including illiteracy need to be solved with utmost focus by government and non government associations.

Underdeveloped and developing countries have to face these problems. But the most important thing is the resiliency of people despite the many problems that come along the way. Cambodians are incredibly resilient and very resourceful.

These issues can be overcome by Cambodia by means of cooperation, communication, and awareness. It is just a matter of time and they will become more developed. With the help of the United Nations and some powerful allies, they will certainly overcome these problems. They need to focus in education, health, and good governance.
