My Adventure with a Fujufilm X20 Camera from the Amazon Rainforest

Can photography resist troubles of extensive wilderness under extremely harsh conditions? Should you have had inquired about that question quite a while earlier, my answer has to be resounding no. Being an adventurer, which was one of the main reasons why I still stuck to my film Slr. Digital camera cameras are bulky, require big batteries and they are very responsive to environmental conditions.

However, I made a decision to switch that stance some time ago while i launched into a forest expedition to the Amazon rainforest. Outdoor photographers face plenty of issues, especially those who want to shoot digital. I'll try and target the various challenges, research and practices which might be necessary to be a successful photographer from the wilderness.

Challenges Faced

One of many challenges faced by every outdoor wedding photographer could be the inability to access any power grip lines and the limited weight carrying capacity. Moreover, the harsh environment is just not electronics-friendly. Listed below are these challenges that worried me essentially the most:

1. Power: we planned to keep for a total 30 days from the rainforest, without entry to any electricity not less than Two weeks straight.

2. Weight: when power can be a restriction, you can salvage by situation by carrying a huge battery. However, within an outdoor expedition, even weight carrying capacity is limited. Hence, power is even more of a concern in the event the weight limit is restricted too.

3. Environment: the digital camera setup should be able to withstand harsh weather and potentially rough treatment. Humidity and rains posed two of the biggest potential problems, for both the digital camera and its batteries.

Gear Research

It absolutely was clear from the beginning which i needed a concise photography gear solution that will also go far. However, that is a significant hard challenge to conquer as battery capacity and weight come together. Considering the variety of hurdles as you go along, I knew I had to go with a compromise. However, even if making compromises, I always make an effort to go for the perfect solution.

1. Fujifilm X20 Camera: It becomes an enthusiast grade compact camera with the great features of the Slr. It features a 2/3" 12 MP sensor in addition to Fujifilm's EXR image processing technology. Additionally, it includes a lens modulation optimizer tool you can use to counter the optical effects for example diffraction and interference. Also, it's got manual zoom functionality that is an extra also in the jungles. Added with its fast AF system, it can make for a compelling choice. When I saw the appearance of the digital camera, I knew it turned out the correct one for me.

2.Fuji np-50 battery: My Fujifilm X20 included a standard battery that may last for just a couple of hundred shots with regards to the usage. It absolutely was clear from the beginning which i had to get extra batteries to power by camera through the adventure. As an alternative to purchasing the stock batteries, I decided to choose STK's Fuji np-50 battery, which exceeds the battery specifications in the stock battery and comes set with 1,200 mAh of juice. I aquired 3 of those to power my camera through the journey.

Conclusion

My substitute for go with an easy small camera plus a few standard lithium-ion batteries paid itself off ultimately. It absolutely was a straightforward setup, but quite effective. I was just shy of having a thousand pictures, nevertheless the batteries lasted to get more duration compared to what they were intended. Moreover, their light nature and economical value made handling them a breeze and much less risky. I'm not sure whether here is the most practical answer, but it helped me. Now, returning to my first question: can photography resist troubles of extensive wilderness under extremely harsh conditions? A convincing yes!
