By Rosalinda Richmond

The Norwegian musical group kosmoratik is comprised of very skilled musicians. They view their musical creations as a project unfolding. They create music based on universal themes as they are inspired by performers of the past and present. Their music is a creative blend of rock, pop and symphony distilled into compositions that evoke emotions and thought.

The group hails from Norway, with a base in Oslo. Their official description of their music is symphonic pop. To achieve their unique blends, they compose for keyboards, guitars, voice and symphonic instruments. Viewing their songs as a collection of progressive music, they strive to create new musical sounds inspired by favorite composers of the first wave of progressive rock music.

This group has a high level musicianship that is supported by technical prowess. Vocals, keyboards and percussion are ideally balanced to complement the whole. Accompaniment and lyrics are evenly balanced, too. As is expected of those who reach high performance levels, their music literally flows from them. This ease of execution combined with with the expressive qualities they present may be one reason their peers and fans give them kudos.

These are expressive performances that Kosmoratik presents. Their song topics range from insights about various human relationships to the wonders of the universe and its relationship to humans. Some tracks are about mundane, ordinary living, and others are about the often unspoken thoughts many people have throughout the course of life.

Enjoying the skillful blends of electronic and acoustic instrumental sounds is part of the experience of listening to this group. It is the masterful execution of blending the various elements to create a cohesive product that is so intriguing. The warm voices of the singers are friendly and we want to hear more of them.

Eivind Johansen has done interviews in Norwegian for several social media sites. But, the songs the group sings are in English. This makes their collected works readily available to English speaking music lovers on many continents. Posts by fans are also in English, Norwegian, Spanish and other languages. Exploring these posts is a good way to learn more about the group and how their fans are enjoying them. It is also the best way to purchase CD releases and gather information about when a new CD will be available.

Devoted fans from around the world are posting good comments about this group on many social media platforms. Having presented successful concerts in Norway and abroad, their fan base is increasing. Members Eivind Johansen, Lise Lotte and Odd Gunnar Froysland offer their varied musical talents to contribute to the complex sound the group has developed. Johansen is the songwriter and singer, Froysland is the composer for strings, woodwinds and assorted instruments as well as the player of guitars, bass and keyboards. Agedal provides vocals in solos and harmonies, which the other members believe provide the distinct sound the group has.

The freshness of kosmoratik is fitting, considering that their sounds hint at their inspirations. They do include the Beatles and first wave rockers as such. Their respectful nod toward the lyrics of Johyn Martyn and Nick Drake is evident for those with a keen ear.
