Black History Books That Are On The Market

By Charlotte McBride

There are many black history books available on the market today. Anyone who would like to obtain more information about people of color would be wise to check out all of these titles. These stories help to educate other races about the struggles that these people go through and how they overcome very negative obstacles.

Years ago there was a man named Malcolm X and he was very radical to most people. He would usually come off as very arrogant but people who knew him well thought of him as a great force. "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" details his life and gives the reader a better understanding about this man.

"The Help" is a great story that chronicles the life of a twenty one year old white woman who was friends with her maid. There is another black woman who is also involved in the novel and she is someone who is bold and usually speaks her mind to others. The three women have a unique friendship that goes further than that of employer and domestic. In some regards the black woman was almost like a mother to the younger white woman.

Anyone living in America knows the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This was a man who believed in getting equal rights for all people during a tough time in America. All of this information is well documented in the novel "Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." Information in this story was taken from his widow Coretta Scott King and Bryan Collier.

His widow Coretta Scott King was one of the main contributors to this novel and she remembers all of her husband's tough fights. Dr. King was the one who organized the bus boycotts in the south and he held many demonstrations that were non-violent.

"Uncle Tom's Cabin" will always remain a story of controversy in every part of America. It had anti-slavery sentiments that sent shock waves through the country after being published. This is still known as one of the most unique novels for its time. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a winner of a novel when she scripted this particular story.

"The Ruby Bridges Story" is an extraordinary novel about a six year old girl who made history after becoming the first child of color to attend an all white school. She faced many forms of racism while going to this school and still stood strong. It is a must read for anyone who has ever been bullied in their lifetime because they were different.

Harriet Tubman appeared in one of the best black history books of all time. "Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom" is a well written novel that will surely grab any reader's attention. She was a woman who created the underground railroad that led other African Americans to freedom. This was also a woman who was constantly abused as a child by her slave master and his family. She is on the same level as another famous figure from the bible. Her and Moses faced the same obstacles and were both winners in the end.
