By Kathleen Hamilton

People seem to have lots of objectified stereotypes when it comes to Hawaii. From hula skirts to pineapples, there is just no limit in how fixed some peoples minds can be. However, one thing that cant be disputed when it has to do with analogy with the Aloha State is the Big Old Blue. Take a moment for these Hawaii ocean paintings.

The exquisite land of Hawaii is just that, so beautiful and exquisite, that no doubt it excites and tingles that preternatural Artists Sense. You will not be hard put to find a spot in this paradise youll like, and then translate that picture into the immortal canvas. That this paradisiacal state has inspired numerous artists is not exactly news. However, that some artworks have come to be such cherished collectibles might be news to you.

Many points of interest present themselves when it comes to nonnative art. Its not as easy as limiting that to artwork produced at the other side of the globe. It can refer to even that of the Europeans that have arrived with Cook, a considerable subset of which were artists, who were set out to paint a picture of exotic lands, people, and landscapes away from Europes tamed shores.

Interestingly enough, one thing thats unique with the art world of Hawaii is the so called Volcano School. This is a composite of people who liked to paint no less than Hawaiis dramatically erupting volcanoes in both its diurnal and nocturnal glory. Well, you cant deny that an erupting volcano makes for a really good picture. This genre peaked between the 1880s and 90s, in which period the Mauna Loa and Kilauea were intermittently active.

Then again, if you are an art lover, you will be able to find scenic spots here that will inspire you and motivate you in your artistic endeavors. The openness and versatility of the culture are sure to keep you afloat since you will have nothing to be afraid or intimidated of. In Hawaii, there are all kinds of artisans, who create many kinds of unique artworks, who handle different styles, media, and techniques.

Really, though, that maudlin soliloquy was for the mere purpose of transmitting the beauty of Hawaii. And then, there are the pictures that capture this beauty so impeccably that they take on the beauty itself. Getting these paintworks and prints will really be tantamount to getting a piece of this Pacific Diamond with you.

There are also the half breeds, or native art sprinkled with Western influences. Of course, this can be another technical consideration in itself. After all, when can one definitively say that something is Western or whatnot. An acceptable answer can be founded on the subject matter and styles. It varies, though, and more often than not, it is down on intuition.

Aside from culture, there is also history to take into account. Just like any other state or county, there have been bookmarks in its history dividing one era from another. In Hawaiis case, it was the arrival of Captain James Cook, and the eras he divides are the pre European and the colonial era. The art can be accordingly dichotomized in between, however, there are also the middle elements, those that have been produced by natives, but inundated with Western materials, ideals, and so and so.

Although no hard and fast rules define what constitutes the art of Hawaii, that only applies in the de facto way. In the greater scheme of things, there are objet d arts and some such curios that scream Hawaiian without you even asking. There is no limit to the beauty and promise of this place.
