Gabrielle Arruda is a Parsons the New School for Design graduate whose upcoming collection takes inspiration from the modern woman with practical yet high fashion designs. With Roots in Chicago she moved to New York to launch a career in fashion. As a young designer, her clothing gives fashion connoisseurs a fresh look on femininity and modernity.
Wind is an element of the Earth that is often forgotten for its power and the energy it can create. Wind is the driving inspiration for Gabrielle Arruda's debut Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The collection takes on the physical characteristics of wind and its ability to create energy for rural farms. Her initial collection stands as her emergence into the fashion world as a modern designer.
One of the ideals important to Gabrielle Arruda is having a fully functioning line made in the USA. Having the collection made from fabrics in America give her collection a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship without sacrificing the quality of the work and the design.
Since the collection was made to symbolize the movements and power of the wind, it is only right that the collection be named "Energy". To personify the concept she used lightweight fabrics to keep her ideal customer in mind. The collection has a powerful play on silhouettes to create a modern yet tasteful feel to the garments without sacrificing sensuality.
The collection carries everything from skirts and dresses to shorts and pants. All garments included varying necklines to create a distinct sophistication and character of the garment. Organic fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen were used to illustrate the flow from wind as it creates energy. Each garment is comfortable, yet sophisticated.
The "Energy" collection carries everything from evening dresses and gowns to shorts and pants suits. Since the modern woman is constantly in motion, Arruda used that concept as she approached each garment individually. The fabrics and appeal of the design create a light flow and movement when the garment is worn. A stand out piece found within the collection is a top that features a silk chiffon neck piece that draws you in. The piece is paired with a short short to add to the dramatic effect from the neck piece. Other items in the collection are paired with light jackets, coats and vests to bring the collection together.
Gabrielle Arruda's work goes beyond fashion with heavy roots in the community. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection focuses on the modern woman and her beliefs of equality in the workplace find inspiration off the runway as well. Part of the proceeds from one item in her collection will go toward a charity celebrating the empowerment of women. Gabrielle is also creating a logo pin to help raise money for breast cancer research.
Looking forward to her next collection, Gabrielle Arruda is putting the final touches on her Fall/Winter collection before debuting it in early 2014. To connect with fashion lovers she has shared designs and daily inspirations on social media platforms like Facebook Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
