Stories Of Miracles As Seen In The Bible

By Marissa Velazquez

Miracles are surprising events that people often pray for because of the positive effects they bring. An HIV patient for instance prays that one day, the virus will disappear from his blood system. These events do not agree with scientific theories so they are linked to God's intervention in the lives of men. Stories of miracles abound in the Bible where different kinds of individuals were both partakers and beneficiaries of God's divine help.

Faith is the primary factor for a miracle. This can be seen in the story of the woman with the issue of blood who got healed just by touching a part of Jesus' cloth. Before that fateful day, she had been visiting several medical experts who had finally given up on her. Her problem lasted 12 years before she met Jesus.

The healing of Blind Bartimeus is another interesting miracle. Bartimeus was blind from birth and this made him resort to begging on the streets. One day, he heard that Jesus was passing by so he yelled and screamed unto Jesus to have mercy on him. Despite the discouragements from the crowd, Bartimeus got his healing on that day and his condition changed permanently.

The man called legion (many demons) had been abandoned by his people who thought there was no way he could regain consciousness. Although his relations had given up on him, Jesus did not forget this man who was located at the riverside. He went there specifically for him, to show him his love and care. Jesus expelled the demons from him and sent them to the pigs. The demons drove the pigs to the river where they got drowned.

Jesus walked on water. This is another miracle with great lesson. Jesus performed this miracle to let His disciples know that all things are possible once they believe in Him. Contrary to some views, this miracle was not performed to show off.

Jesus often taught the multitude on how to get to Heaven. In one of his gatherings, there were five thousand men including women and children who had been famished after listening to His sermons. Jesus told his disciples about the need to feed the multitude and then one of them got five loaves of bread and two fish from a boy in the crowd. After blessing the food, He used it to feed them and there were twelve baskets remaining.

The shortest verse in the Bible, "Jesus Wept", was recorded when He went to see His friend, Lazarus at the tomb where he was buried. Jesus got the news that his best friend, Lazarus of Bethany, was ill but refused to go until his death just to glorify the Father. This story shows that God still has the power to raise the dead.

There are many other stories of miracles in the Old Testament. Miracles such as the departure of the Israelites through the Red Sea, God's creation with spoken words, the fall of Jericho's walls and the healing of Naaman in 2 Kings 5:14 are there in the Bible. These stories are indelible and they are meant to encourage everyone who is in dire need of supernatural help from God.
