Tricks To Including Jazz Artwork In Home Decor

By Angel Dudley

There are several elements that work together in order to enjoyably include jazz artwork into a home's decor. Synergy, or the outcome when the end result is greater than the sum of each factor, plays an unseen role. A uniquely pleasant space can be created in any room where all of the major elements seem to belong and create completion and harmony.

Having a few distinct guideposts or factors to consider can be a great help when choosing the arrangement of decor. Sometimes, the decorator has an instinct or internal sense of where each feature belongs. But when this isn't the case, a closer look at a few key points will provide the needed clarity.

An enjoyable space is really about two things: how the area feels and what its practical use is. Creating the feel is the job of the decor and is not as elusive as it may seem at first try. Each element, such as color coordination, freely flowing energetic movement, coherent decorative styles and geometric alignment, affects the outcome. An individual piece of art does not make a room inviting in and of itself but can play a crucial role.

Frequently, there are notable features that stand out such as a saxophone, piano, trumpet, dancers or perhaps even wine glasses. Someone interested in jazz potentially has other art with a similar feature or may even own the feature themselves. For example, an elegantly framed painting which includes a piano will be well complimented in a room where an actual piano already stands.

A photograph that includes people smiling, laughing or crying offers a very specific emotion to be aware of. Colors are also connected to a particular feeling, so knowing what feel is wanted in an area is important. Jazz art is prone to including strong and vibrant colors, with either a leaning towards one that is dominant or a more even mixing of many. When considering this major factor, look for ways to create a harmony between the tones in the house space and the tones in the artwork. For example, a very colorful piece can belong if even one of the colors is widely used in the decor.

Whether the piece is meant to be a primary focal point or an enhancement, location and placement will be a determining factor in this. As a central feature, the surrounding area should be as free of clutter as possible and contain only simple or complementary elements. The eye is easily distracted and clutter will greatly reduce the effect.

In creating a sense of harmony and flow, placement relative to other more static features of the room becomes crucial and offers an appealing sense of symmetry. Centering a picture in the middle of a wall is a good illustration of this. Other elements to make use of include the lines that make up the top and sides of door frames, windows, furniture and other wall-hangings. Both height and horizontal symmetry greatly affect perception.

In truth, the best advice is to allow the piece to choose its home within the home. Alignment and synergy are the keys to incorporating jazz artwork into home decor. Content, color, size and placement each have an effect and awareness of these aspects can bring ease to the process.
