Phillip Romero Reasons On Why People Use Jewelry

By Rachael Gutierrez

Ornaments are small decorative items that are either attached to the body or to the clothes. The importance of the jewelry as explained by Phillip Romero is independent from one person to another. This is because different people have different aspect on the issue of wearing these items based on both their cultural and religious beliefs. Without these two institutes the person view on the wearing of ornaments can be based on the personal adornment.

There are those ornaments that if the male use them, they might be misunderstood. For instance in most cultures the male need not to wear earrings. Those male who wear earring on one of their ears are taken to be portraying their relationship status as guy. This might not be the case but that is what people who are seeing them tend to assume.

Other than the artistic display of the ornaments, they can be used to store value. By the fact that different ornaments are made up of different materials, they poses different financial value. They can be made from gemstone, animal material, shells, and even gold. The types of ornament a person posses can store their value which they can later sell to acquire back their cash.

For instance a person that has placed he ring on the thumb symbolize that they are actually guy. The middle figure show that they are engaged and the little finger shows that they are actually not in any relationship. This therefore calls for the proper use of these ornaments to avoid misleading others.

The body modification procedures might limit some of the individuals from using ornaments that are attached to these modifications. This might because there are people whose body cannot stand the piercing. Some allergy might arise during the time of modification or when they are actually using these ornaments. These complications make them avoid the use of these ornaments.

Most of the western countries use the ring as a symbol of the wedding commitment. During the wedding ceremony the parties that are involved place a ring in the finger of each other to always remind them of this commitment that they have towards each other. Anytime the other member is swayed astray the ring will always assist them in making the right decision for the sake of their marriage. It is therefore the symbol for the covenant that they enter into.

An ornament can symbolically represent the group that one is membership to. This is mostly relevant to most of the religious organizations. The members of the religion are presented with an ornament which can be in the form of a necklace to not only show their religion but also to assist in their religious development in their beliefs. The Roman Catholic Church provides its members with the cross of Jesus Christ which assist them in making prayers to the Supreme Being.

The purpose of wearing jewelry as described by Phillip Romero in this contest is to act as a symbolic show of membership in a certain group. The Roman Catholic Church for instance provides its members with a necklace that aid them in making prayers and in guiding their relationship with the Supreme Being. Each member of these religion therefore wears this ornament not only for the religious belief that is attached t it but to also act as their royalty to the religion.
