A Take On The Female Swedish Singer

By Irma Farrell

Like any other country, Sweden has produced a multitude of artists that are famous throughout their country and even throughout the entire world. What the female Swedish female singer brings to the table is a certain skill set that has the capability to transcend local boundaries and reach out to anyone that is willing to listen. To prove this point, a few examples may be needed.

A prominent example can be made out of Theresa Andersson. She was born in 1972 somewhere within Gotland, Sweden. As a singer songwriter, the video for Na Na Na, one of her singles, was recorded in a do it yourself style and proved so popular that it attracted more than one million views on YouTube.

Another example is Miss Li. Li, whose real name is Linda Carlsson, is a famous musician whose single was featured on a series on Showtime called Weeds. Other than that, there was the utilization of Bourgeois Shangri La, another one her of songs, in a commercial for the iPod Nano commercial.

Birgit Carp, known as Git Gay during her heyday, was a multi talented director, actress and vocalist. She was born Birgit Agda Holmberg in Karlshamn, Sweden in 1921. Her musical education began in earnest when her parents, wanting her to become a concerto pianist, had enrolled her to the Music Conservatory in Malmo.

By the forties, she was invited to act in a summer revue as a prima donna by a director named Sigge Holmberg. By the following year, she was performing at the Grona Lund in Stockholm in Klart Gronan, another revue. The rest, as they say, is history. Her career continued well into the nineties where she transitioned towards senior TV presenting. Git Gay passed away a mere eleven days before she would have turned eighty six in the year 2007.

Clara Hagman is a member of the pop band Ace of Base. She was recruited to replace departing band members at the age of just eighteen years old. After her inclusion into the band, the new line up released its new album sometime in September 2010.

One of the most highly thought of singers of the nineteenth century was Johanna Maria Lind, who better known by her alias Jenny Lind was a Swedish opera singer. Her talents earned her the nickname Swedish Nightingale. Her amazing performance in Der Freischutz made her famous, although vocal damage a few years later nearly ruined her career.

Even the Finnish metal band Nightwish is being fronted by a woman from Sweden. Annette Ingegerd Olsson, known as Anette Olzon, her stage name, is the second lead vocalist. She also happened to work with the band Alyson Avenue in the past.

A few out of hundreds or thousands is enough for now to drive the point home. A talented Swedish female singer is a boon to her country, serving well with great skill and talent. There is little doubt that the nation swells with pride when it comes to the talent of both the past and the present. It is proven that they can rival any other foreign counterpart in the world today.
