The unions Australia possess are as different as in most other parts of the world. Historically speaking they have played important roles in the the countries they are in. At first they were only started by workers as a way to ensure request for higher pay were successful. Though, over time their primary role has enlarged to more areas than primarily wages.

These worker funded organizations were formed to help all workers with their primary rights and basic relationships with employers. Some of the primary rights they assist with protecting are the issues involving safety and health, sexual harassment, discrimination and minimum wage enforcement. Union representatives also assist the workers when they have claims against employers.

They also help with long term service needs as well. They often help with free or discounted legal service for their members if they encounter legal problems. They can also provide discounted group health and life insurance at greatly reduced costs. Many also have training programs and internships for young people just entering the workforce.

One of the best advantages of a joining trade unions is their ability for engaging in collective bargaining. When they negotiate work contracts, the union will bring the employees together as a group for solidarity and this provides a far greater impact for them the bargaining table. Companies often respect this procedure more because it is easier than negotiating individual contracts for each employee.

This greater impact often results in saved jobs, greater wages and benefit packages, and better compensation for any hours worked outside of normal working hours. They also help to limit outsourcing to other countries, and help ensure quality trained workers with set standards for employment positions. This helps ensure quality products are produced by the employees.

There are different trade unions available for workers from a broad range of different occupations. These can range from construction workers and medical employees to common factory workers. Joining is as easy as speaking to the shop stuart or on site union rep, filling out the paperwork and paying any appropriate dues. If you pay your dues and keep working in the field, you will be entitled to stay in the union.

It is essential to realize that they are also good for most employers as well. Employers will use fewer people for their negotiating and for communicating with employees. They also can reap rewards from increased productivity and more company loyalty from employees. They can help companies save on money through reduction in accidents or down time due to a safer workforce. They often get more responsible better trained employees through the union training programs.

The different unions Australia have are varied like the many people that have joined them. They help to provide many safeguards for members and to enrich work force diversity. Now when you see a loaf of bread or look at your automobile or most other common place items, hopefully you will see that there are many organizations behind the different people making these items that work to enrich everyone's life.
