Why Do We Frequently Have To Pay A Lot For Abstract Art Products We Purchase?

By Crystal Duke

There are several reasons as to why some abstract art products end up being extremely expensive. Many people would expect the products of art genre in question here to be quite cheap, as they are largely 'the products of the artists' own minds.' Whenever people are looking for abstract art, they will certainly be very surprised. This happens as they assume abstractions to be less valuable than any other art products. They seek an explanation for this phenomenon, because truth be told, there are folks who believe that art products from the abstract genre should be one rung below the rest: and hence cheaper.

There are a lot of artists who create abstract art products and if you ask any of them about prices and artistic value, they all agree that abstract art is a lot more valuable or equally valuable, compared to different art genres. They therefore see no justification in selling their products at a lower price, just because they are 'abstract.' For all of you who want to really get an insight on how abstract art is priced way above mainstream art, we will share three main reasons and explanations.

One of the three reasons to explain how come abstract art products are really costly products is the total amount of money required to create that product. For example, we could look at art works which were produced on a canvass. If you give it a close look, you will notice that the canvasses used by these artists are of the highest quality, thus being the most expensive ones. In the case of paintings, abstract artists try to use the best quality paint which is also extravagant. Painting on high quality canvass with high quality paint makes no sense without using high quality, expensive brushes and tools. If you consider all of these, you realize that during materialization, a lot of money was needed. This is why the end price is a high one: the artist must earn a little amount of money when selling any of his or her works.

The second principle and fact resulting in abstract art products being high-priced is that 'time is money'. As you probably know, abstract products are made by hand, thus a lot of time and energy is invested in every single product. Abstract art works must be priced high to motivate the artist. This is needed because every artist spends a lot of time and energy on each piece.

The final reason to justify these high prices of abstract art products is how skillful the artist has to be in order to produce that artistic work. Only the very best abstract artists have the set of skills and talent required for their products to reach the commercial market. Since an enormous amount of talent is needed to create valuable artistic work, it's not too simple for any artist to reach that level. Reasonably costly abstract art products thus have a well-justified price.
