The Importance Of Christmas Play Scripts In Our Modern Lives

By Dianne Crane

There are many stories on the Savior Jesus and his life. My favorite is the one that tells us about his birth. Maybe you have heard about it. Of the many Christmas play scripts this is one that tells us how the shepherds learnt about the Baby Jesus who lay in the manger and was visited by the Wise men and blessed by them.

Among the stories told is that of King Herod who tried to have Jesus killed. That apart, one will hear stories of a reindeer with the shiny nose, Rudolph. People simply adapt these stories, making them sound as if the events of a magic night happened to them. That is what makes the season so special and interesting, because everyone has something to tell.

It is difficult to avoid the fun and excitement in the season. One would sometimes be caught waiting for Santa Claus and his sled to bring us toys. This is a childish notion that we learn when we are kids. Being good becomes a priority for all of us and anyone who is not gets ignored on the big day. It is this mood which makes the season one of fantasy and rejoicing.

This season will find the stories that are written deal directly or indirectly with the actual sequence of events that leads to birth of Jesus. It shows who are involved and how the events took place. Joseph being the father is mentioned in many stories and so also is the mother Mary. The shepherds find their place in some while a few deals exclusively with the Wise Men who come visiting Jesus.

Herod and his soldiers chase Joseph with the intention of killing him. This script is played by the bigger children. It is to understand how greed can destroy if one is not careful. The Wise Men who warn Joseph about the plan Herod has to kill and this is enough for Joseph to escape. This script is an action script and maost if not all the seniors will find it amusing.

It is not the scripts that are written that matter. It is the spirit in the season and the way the children are brought into close contact with the religion. It is during this time they understand the relevance of Christ in their lives and how one should be ready to give in order to get. The dramas all point to the significance of having the spirit of sharing and caring for one another.

Creating dramas and plays for the children to enact the events of a given Christmas night helps them develop their own perspective. They realize their moral obligations mainly through their interaction with their friends and the people who watch the play. It fosters the spirit of brotherhood and helps them appreciate the season of giving.

People find inspiration in the things ordinary and the extraordinary. At Christmas time the Christmas play scripts find their value as sources of inspiration. They are easily understandable and so loved that everyone big and small share the festive mood as one. This projection of man as a social entity that has stood the test of time is perhaps the biggest moral of Christmas. It also helps spread the message of love for one another.
