The best comedy films go straight to the soft spot of viewers. They are designed to make people laugh and let go of stress. Laughter is commonly known as a cure all. It can be easy to lose oneself in the entertainment of a funny movie, if only for an hour or so. Watching comedies can be a way to eliminate daily stress. It takes all kinds of humor to make everyone laugh. This is why there are different types of comedies written. This article will discuss the stress relieving qualities and the sub-genres found within the comedy film genre.

Many people have that special someone in their lives who is always trying to make people laugh. This individual may have more insight into dealing with life's stress than originally thought. It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. There is scientific proof behind this statement.

Psychologists have performed different studies designed to prove or disprove whether or not comedy has the ability to alleviate stress and make people happier. One specific study addressed a group of bed ridden patients in a hospital setting. It proved that laughter can have healing elements. There have been many other experiments done. This is just an example of one.

Before the movie viewing, the patients were questioned by psychologists and tested by nurses to determine their mental and physical well being. Over the span of a few days, the patient's were shown different genres of comedy films. They were all shown the same movies. Nothing else was altered in the patient's daily lives. The preliminary screening was then redone. They were assessed for happiness and stress levels. The proof was apparent. They were less stressed mentally, psychically, and emotionally.

Other research has also been performed by comedians. There effort was to find out what kind of things make people laugh. Overall, what they found out is that we are all unique with different senses of humor. One common concept is realism. Viewers tend to be able to laugh as situations that are portrayed in a realistic way and need to be able to relate to the characters in order to be drawn into the plot. Outside stress seem to melt away in the face of a realistic comedy film.

Most humor centered movies use everyday situations that we all encounter and add a funny experience to it. It makes viewers able to believe that this could actually happen to them. This factor adds to the comedic affect. People are more willing to laugh at things that are realistic and believable. Others of us enjoy seeing people in films hurt in a minor way. These variations in sense of humor are what led directors and writers to invent different comedy genres.

The most commonly written sub-genres of comedy include dark, romantic, satire, and slapstick. Dark comedies make light of difficult events that we encounter throughout life. This is where the statement "too soon" came from. If a movie makes light of a tragedy and the world has not had time to process it yet, viewers will say that is is too soon to make the topic funny. Romantic comedies make viewers laugh by exaggerating and poking fun at the struggles so often present within our most intimate relationships. Satirical films use sarcasm to induce laughter. Slapstick is one of the oldest forms of comedy. It was used in films, even before sound was. Slapstick uses visual stimulation and harmless violence throughout the film.

The best comedy films are designed to help people feel better about life. Laughter has the ability to lighten the worst of situations. People are unique and have different senses of humor. This is why there are many different genres of comedy available. The goal of all comedy films is to promote laughter and happiness.
