Piano Classes For Amateurs

By Andy Penbram

There are numerous of you who are on the lookout for piano lessons for beginners so here are some questions I continually get asked by would be pianists or keyboard players.

How long will it take?

A whole lot of people take up the guitar because after only a short time of learning you will be able to get a reasonable sound and be playing certain well known songs. Traditionally with the piano it takes a long time and requires a lot of hard work before it's possible to be playing identifiable music. Happily now there are one or two home learning courses that use audio and video to teach you piano in multiple styles or genres. These courses train you to play by ear and how to read music. With these courses you'll be playing identifiable music from the outset.

What is the cost of piano classes?

Piano lessons with a private teacher can cost anything from $50 to $100 or more for an hour long session. The bulk of teachers offer one on one lessons in their own houses, in a music center or they'll come to you. Some charge $50 an hour and other people will charge you $200 every month giving you a lesson a week. If you download a home learning course then you'll get much more than a years worth of lessons for less than $50.

Can't you find free lessons on the Internet?

Yes, there are free piano tuition available at a few websites. Many of them are truly basic first steps beginners piano lessons that only cover the initiation into piano playing and don't go much further. The same can be said for the videos that are found online too... They will teach you the fundamentals and nothing more. There are some videos that teach you a certain song. With many you have to follow what the person is playing and with others step-by-step directions are given. Although there is no structure to these lessons you should be ale to pick up something from them but it will not be a total training.
