A Brief Wedding Planning Guide

By Adriana Noton

When you are planning a wedding there can be an overwhelming amount of things to sort out and deal with. Some people can afford to hire a planner but others may need the help of a wedding planning guide. There are many choices that can be made according to your individual style and budget, but there are some things that should not be overlooked no matter what.

Before you begin thinking about the more exciting aspects of your special day you will need to research the formality of obtaining a marriage license. Different states require different amounts of notice and different fees for processing the license and you will need to show identification before you will be issued with one. You should check what is required of you early on so that you do not forget among the excitement of the other preparations.

You will have to decide early on where you wish to get married. You may choose to have a religious service followed by a reception elsewhere or you may decide to hire a hotel and have a non religious service and reception all in the same building. Popular choices for location include beaches, private gardens and hotels, but depending on your state there could be plenty of other options for you.

You will need to decide sooner rather than later on a date for your marriage. The sooner you can inform your guests of your chosen date, the better, so that as many people can arrange to attend. If you choose to get married in the summer, expect the prices to be higher. Should you go for a winter wedding do not forget to add warm clothing and appropriate transport to your to do list.

Once you have your venue secured you can begin consulting with them on choices for food and drink. You could have a formal sit down meal or a help yourself style buffet. You will also need to decide how many drinks you provide your guests with. You could provide an open bar, but if this is too expensive for you, you could provide wine for the meal and champagne for the toasts while the guests pay for any other drinks they would like.

There are plenty of different choices available for your dress depending on the size of your budget. If you have a large budget you could opt for a custom made dress. If money is tight you could buy a dress online or for a compromise you could buy from a shop and have it altered for you. Do not forget to make sure your accessories match.

After you have chosen your dress you can start to look at the clothing for the rest of the wedding party. Most brides like to match their bridesmaids dresses with their own. There are various different options available for the groom and groomsmen.

Providing you have followed the wedding planning guide there should not be too much left to organize. Try to arrange the smaller things with plenty of time to spare and remember to book your honeymoon.
