Anyone Who Likes Home Decor Should Try Decorative Painting Patterns

By Douglas Fisher

When a person chooses to take on decorating their home, it can be fun as well as a money saver. What some either dread or live for is the time it takes to plan, even though some people find that creating as one goes along is produces a better result. One way to get the most out of wall space is to use decorative painting patterns that complement a room theme.

Themes should reflect a personality but it also helps to keep practicality in mind. A good example is a mostly white decor as a princess theme, which is a nice visual but not ideal for a home with small children or active pets. If the person in charge of decorating is also a home renter, then it may help to consult with the landlord before making obvious changes.

There are several great advantages to doing this at home. It is a nice way for families to bond and creative expression can be a nice mental outlet. Because all person needs to do is follow a template, there are few boundaries when it comes to painting. Anyone who likes the color blue may want this as a theme for the winter holidays and so on.

Choosing the right paint depends mostly on how space is being used. Acrylic paint is affordable, is found at most major discount retail chains and dries quickly with a single coat. If a mistake is made, all it takes is a little soap and water to correct a fresh coat. If it has dried already, painting over the mistake is a possibility.

Watercolors are good for blending things like floral designs but will not show up on most furnishings or dark backgrounds. For those who do not care to spend a lot of time using a brush, there are some alternatives. When it comes to small details, spray paints may be of use, or for added texture, the sponge paint methods may work.

Another method to consider is the faux painting. This is usually done with a sea sponge or toothbrush but there are also kits that are compatible with tole painting patterns. Arts and craft stores also carry sprays that are easy to use and come in a wide range of colors and textures.

Anyone lacking ideas may want to browse the many home decor websites or periodicals. Also, books and live tutorials that are found online can also provide inspiration and possibly help someone who may find themselves a little stumped. While these are good reference points, anyone can add their own personal touches.

While some people go for contrasts when decorating, uniformed themes can be just as exciting to work on. For those who like florals, a pattern or template may be used on table tops, picture frames, or as a border on a wall. The great thing about using a pattern is that no one restricted to using pastel colors.

Glitter or shimmer paints are another ideal, as well as trying a glow in the dark paint that the kids may like for their rooms. There all also fun neon colors that stand out and ideal for holiday parties. Whatever the choice, it should be an extension of personality.
