Quick Tips On How To Come Up With Web Design Quotes.

By Doris Rivas

If you are a newbie webmaster, coming up with web design quotes can really be tricky. The rule of thumb is to price you services fairly for both the client and yourself. Below, how to come up with a good pricing for a website development project is discussed.

To help the client see things more perceptively, it's always wise to come up with a project outline. This basically will include the tasks to be performed; tools that are required for the job; amount of time each task will require and the expected results. Usually, as a newbie webmaster you'll find that you can't really tell the exact time needed to accomplish a particular task.

Usually, the rule of thumb is to provide an hourly rate for the whole project. As a novice freelancer, it can be hard to quote the exact time for a particular task but this will get better as you become more experienced.

In general, a website may contain a start up page, navigation linking several pages and the header and footer. Most webmasters may take maybe two or more hours to come up with a good design; these generally will depend on how complex the page is. Let's assume that the designer spends around three hours in doing this.

Adding in special features to the website. The customer may also need the webmaster to add in a few special features to the website like blogs, shopping cart, database configuration etc. To do all these, the webmaster was able to take say two hours.

Another aspect that the webmaster will need to work on is the domain registration and web host configuration. Generally, the client may require you to register a new host or maybe work with an already existing one. As much as this may seem like a simple task, it can take a long time more so if you have to retrieve passwords from the host or maybe call them for a few other things. Let's assume that to do all this, the programmer takes four hours.

By now, the website should be up and running though it will require regular updates. As a freelancer, it is always good to discus how this work will be billed well in advance. You can decide to work with a fixed monthly cost for the maintenance and updates or you could set up an hourly rate. Generally, this will solely depend on what works for both of you.

So in a recap, your web design quotes will be as follows; designing of the website three hours; incorporating special features two hours; web hosting and domain registration four hours, total number of hours for the whole project nine hours. Since the client may require you to do some changes on the website once you're done you can multiply the nine hours by maybe a factor of 1.5. So, the total billable hours will be 13.5.
