Reasons For Reading Contemporary Cowboy Romance Novels

By Beryl Dalton

People all over the globe enjoy the steady unfolding of a fairly good story. While there is sometimes tension between the characters, this adds to the drama and excitement that exists in the story and in most cases, will take it from fairly good to memorable. Bibliophiles enjoy guessing what the outcome of the conflict will be, if any exists between the protagonists. Contemporary cowboy romance novels deliver all of that, keeping readers guessing until the final pages.

In essence, whether or not a story of this nature contains erotic elements, it has to engage each reader with the increasing mental and emotional attraction between hero and heroine. Stories that lack any trace of such passion or have poorly written descriptions of that pull between the characters, usually do not become popular.

When it comes to the elements that make a love story successful, the importance of a sexy male lead cannot be underestimated. Successful authors know this and they usually aim to put together a description of the hero that brings out the best of his physical and inner qualities. They are usually rugged individuals who can handle the challenges that are presented by their environment.

Most people who are fans of the genre enjoy reading vivid descriptions of the landscape. This is one reason why they look for and buy books in this area. They like the virtual trip that they can take through words, seeing wide open meadows, bubbling creeks and noisy stables before them in their minds as they read.

Readers want to know what regular life is like outside of their own community. Reading about the Western lifestyle gives them a break from the routine of their own habits. It also allows them to vicariously experience things that they would not do on a regular basis. For example, they can imagine themselves riding horses instead of bikes.

While contemporary romances, like older books with a similar geographical location, are expected to take place in the West, there is a major difference. The male and female characters undergo challenges that are more similar to those that he average reader nowadays faces. That makes it easier to relate to them.

Readers expect to see romance in a Western setting. They want boots, sexy jeans and cowboy boots. However, some also look for other things to make the story interesting. In matters of the heart, quite a few readers prefer to see their characters grow as people through the love they experience and their Christian faith.

While cowboys are generally associated with Texas, several stories are set in other parts of the United States. For example, some may be written with Colorado as the base, while others take place in areas like Montana. There may also be fans who like the novels which occur in Canada and allow them to enjoy that landscape.
