Writing New Contemporary Romance Novels Tips

By Kerri Stout

Romance novels always leave you in a state that you want to read more and more of them. Sometimes they make you feel like you can write your own new contemporary romance novels only to realize that you don't know how to. If you have the qualities of a great writer then applying these tips will see you on your way to publish your first novel very soon.

The romance genre is one with many readers and also high expectations. Every writer can publish a readable book but one below expectations will not be loved. You need to beat all expectations on the books you write so that you can create a pool of fans who will just read any new book you publish because it bears your name as the author.

The characters of the novel play a major role in determining what reception the novel will get from the public. Gradually developing the setting of the novel by introducing the characters in the early chapters and making them a force to reckon with will be great for your novel. Avoiding predictability of the next course of action for the characters should be avoided at all costs.

Plot of your story brings the second tip. Don't take too long in making the plot. By the end of your second chapter anyone reading your book should be able to say what the story is based on or what is to be expected. Your characters are enhanced by your plot so make it great.

The novel should become interesting within the first few lines of reading. Many authors lose readers by having a boring introduction into the storyline. An interesting introduction gives the reader the urge to continue reading. The story should be developed sequentially for easier understanding.

The emotions that a reader can identify with should be developed in the first few chapters of the novel. The heroine or hero should be part of these emotions for a better effect. The initial impression given to the reader about a certain character will not change at advanced stages of reading. Giving a lasting impression is essential to a good novel. The emotions, in our case, are love and thus the love should be developed from an early stage.

Your targeted readers should determine the age of the characters you use. The readers want a character they can relate with. If you are writing a book for teenagers you need to write one based on teenage love with dialogue appropriate to that age. The characters for teenagers should be 18 to 24 years of age. Above this age the character you create will be targeting adult readers. What you write should be believable

One of the most anticipated things in a novel is the ending. This may be a happy ending or the events leading to the end of the novel may make an unanticipated change to surprise the reader. A climax of events towards the end of the story builds up a great ending that will be remembered for long by your readers. Making the final chapter of your new contemporary romance novel great will have a lasting impression on your readers.
