Music Career Guide: Selling Beats For Sale And Instrumental Beats

By Delroy Wilkins

For aspiring hip hop artists everywhere, any piece of advice on how to make it as a big star is more than welcome. However, it is not as easy as playing one song and getting positive critical approval. Any current hip hop artist that you admire currently has worked quite hard to get to where he/she is.

The first step is to gauge your love and determination for hip hop. Ask yourself: do you see yourself making a career out of it? Or do you simply see it as a hobby with which you can spend your leisure time in? You can establish your level of determination by looking at how frequently you practice your rapping skills. Do you practice every day or just when you feel like doing so? If your answer is the latter, then you still lack the passion to make a career out of hip hop.

But if you are serious about this and would really like to be the next hip hop sensation, then there are three different practices that you ought to apply in your life. The first one is to gain an intimate knowledge of how the current market moves and what its trends are. For instance, in what ways are musicians creating their music? What tools do they use in making them? Do they do it themselves or do they hire someone to make it for them? What are some new concepts you can learn? It is important that you keep yourself updated on these trends as they are keys to winning yourself a fan base.

The second practice is to create, and this refers to creating sounds that are completely unique and fresh. You can do this by sampling beats and instrumentals from other beat makers. You can also use different software to come up with sounds of your own. You can even hit off something very random and be surprised to find that you've created a unique sound.

The third practice involves having a decent marketing strategy. What's the point of producing creative beats when people can't hear them? Also, how are they going to buy your music if they don't know it exists? But if you are new to the industry and find that marketing yourself and your works are too hard for you, why not try buying ready made beats by other makers?

You can choose from an array of different beats and most of the time, sellers will even allow you to hear samples of their beats before you buy them. Some may even relinquish all their ownership rights to you. Overall, this is a friendly environment wherein you can try out things as you continue your journey to becoming hip hop's next big thing.
