Audio mixing is the process by which multiple recorded sounds are combined into one or more channels as Wikipedia stated. To simplify this it is just a method of combining multiple audio layer to make one good track. The process of modifying an already existing piece is called mixing too.

Mixing pretty much mix the different sound produce by various musical instruments like piano, drum, guitar etc. The hymn produce by such instruments will sound dull at first so that is purpose of this technique. This is the part where the musician or producer can play a role with an aid of an audio engineer.

Sometimes to hear the beat of the drums the volume of another instrument must be lowered. It is also possible to take out any unwanted sounds that were accidentally recorded.

On the other hand, audio mastering is a method where the final track is enhance by using different tools. This prepares the piece for either a digital or analog replication. This is the tricky part of making music because it requires not just technical skills but also extensive knowledge of the process and very keen sense of hearing. The track is processed using equalization, compression and noise reduction.

After the track has undergone an audio mixing it need some final touch to give spice to it, and this is when mastering enters. Mastering is the seasoning you add to the music to give it a distinct taste to the audience. And it starts with compression to make it bearable to the eardrum by adjusting the decibel and not making it too loud.

Equalization follows to play with the frequency and make the track harmonious. It gives consistency to how the instruments sound thereby maximizing its quality. This step pretty much sweeten up the hymn for the audience to appreciate it even more. Noise reduction mostly eliminate unwanted clicks, hiss and hum produced during the process.
