When travelers think of about Houston Texas, images of football and cowboys come to mind. Houston is more than the western town travelers might expect, with Houston art galleries adding a sophisticated element to the city. With more than forty art galleries in Houston, decisions are not limited. Don't forget to visit some alternatives to normal art galleries in Houston like art festivals, private art shows and areas known for local street art.
Gallery Row
For an all day Houston art galleries journey, visit what is sometimes known as Gallery Row. This art gallery mecca is found between Colquett and Lake Street in downtown Houston. Gallery Row hosts nine separate but unique art galleries. For modern art, visit Goldesberry Gallery. Thonrwood Gallery is the latest accessory to Gallery Row, featuring various categories of painting and housing an one off sculpture exhibit.
First Sat. Art Market
While not a gallery in the regular sense, a real art fan in Houston shouldn't miss the weekly First Saturday Art Market held at 548 West 19th Street the 1st Saturday of the month from May through October. For $70, any area artist can register 10 days ahead to hold an art studio of their work. Artists wanting a spot need to register online before the art market. Their internet site states that not all forms of art are represented and the market focuses specifically on contemporary and fine arts in Houston.
