Running An Army Surplus Store

By Ladonna Chambers

For many people, military items have a certain appeal and finding the right equipment can often be a challenge and a hobby. Shopping at the Army Surplus stores are often fun to do as well because the things that they sell can often be things that you might not see anywhere else and not find in a long while if you didn't just see it.

The fact is that many of these businesses purchase their warez at government auctions at huge discounts. Sometimes for pennies on the dollar. Maybe you are not looking to buy things from one of these stores but rather looking to go into business as a dealer or someone who owns and runs such a place. It is not as difficult as one might think.

The first thing anybody who is going to have a shop needs is space. If you are going to get into the Army Surplus business you might need a lot of it. The items that you can purchase from government auctions and surplus sales are amazing and most people would never imagine that it would be possible to own some of these things.

There are people who do nothing but purchase old vehicles. From half ton trucks, to flatbeds, to half track tanks. If this is what you are planning to do you will definitely want to be sure that you have some land or a large place to store the vehicles that you are going to buy. You will get them at such discounts that you might not be able to control yourself.

Some people who are in this business will often make sure that they have a empty lot or a large garage to store the items they buy. They also get rid of various regular supplies and equipment too. Things like office chairs, stationary, desks, pens, and printers. The military uses many of the same things used in the civilian world.

Running a business like this is a great way to make a living, especially if you are now doing something that you have always wanted to do. If you are someone who is just in the market for something then of course these are great places to look for items that you might need. Even though the owner might be making a good profit margin, the items they sell are still a deal.

You can find things that you are looking for at a discount and even if the owner has not taken the time to repair the item, you might be able to get it even cheaper at that point. You could always turn around and repair it and make it good as new. Even if you purchase something like an old ammo box, you could use it for a storage box instead.

Running an Army Surplus store is never easy. No store is easy to run when it is your own. The hours are long and the work is usually hard and unforgiving. However there are benefits. You have the joy of knowing that you are doing something important for yourself and something that will make you money. Most people who do this often do make a pretty decent living.
