The Blue Turban is usually worn by the Sikh people from the Eastern parts of the globe. This is taken as a gift from the guru and is how they crown themselves as Singhs and Kaurs. These sit at the throne of higher consciousness and commitment. The blue shade of the garment signifies warriors and is commonly worn among Gyanis and Sikh ministers.

The navy blue or the royal blue garment as it is also known came to be known internationally after one was sighted during the diamond Jubilee celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeths II coronation. A striking royal blue garment caused many people globally to pay attention after it popped right behind the Queen's royal family. Talk about the piece of clothing trended on the online sites including twitter where thousands queried about it.

During the fifteenth century when the Sikh religion was founded, at this time the Hindus were slaves to the Muslims and they all wore the head garments and caps. Guru Nanak continued this tradition from his birth and also kept his hair long. Nine of those who succeed him continued this tradition; this is referred in the Guru Granth Sahib, Holy scripture for the script.

History of the blue style of the garment is unclear. What is known about it though is that it used to be donned by Sikhs during battle. On them there is a metallic symbol of a crescent shaped sword and a double edged sword which are held in place by a chainmail cord which is woven and tied in a pattern. This was supposed to protect the head from slashing objects.

This garment has its significance. For one wearing this garment was similar to pledging allegiance to your Guru and your commitment in serving everybody even if they had any ill intentions towards you or members of your family. This garment is the self crowning of an individual, not just another piece of clothing as taken for by many. As a matter of fact it is considered a signature of nobility and it also represents respectability.

Interestingly, the garment is not all culture and religion but also has an aspect of technology in it. Since the hair is long it is usually tied into a knot. This is known as Rishi knots which supposedly draws meditation energy towards the head. Now the aspect of the garment towards that purpose is holding the 26 bones that make up the skull in place.

Unlike the other religions and cultures, the headgear is wound on a daily basis in the Sikh religion. It is also tied with a peak in the front, not so for many other religions. Also women are allowed to wear the garment although they are not forced to do so.

Rate my turban as a platform allows those who wear turbans to showcase their designs. The garment is important to the wearers ad as a matter of fact holds some significance to them. This is the only way they can relate to their culture. Let us not alienate the wearers of the Blue Turban.
