Why You Need To Learn How To Use Alcohol Ink

By Betty Young

Perhaps you have been thinking of taking up a new hobby. That is a great idea. If you are yet to decide on what you want to pursue, consider attending a painting class. If you look around, you should be able to find tips on how to use alcohol ink in your area or even online. It is not difficult, and you can expect to learn the basics in months.

The reason this ink has become so popular is that it is a wonderful, acid-free painting medium. You can use it to produce amazing abstract collages and even more intricate art pieces. There are numerous ways you could work it. If you have obtained appropriate materials, you are going to greatly enjoy this. In fact, you will master the craft much faster than you think.

The first step you need to take is to buy the medium. You can buy it from a local store or even online. Some types come in kits having complementary colors that look amazing when you work them together. When out there, ask yourself how well the hues you are considering mix and blend to create a pleasing effect. You might want to read up on this before buying.

The next step is purchasing a blending solution. This material dilutes paint such that a unique effect is created when you apply it to the medium. You do not have to use it, but there are reasons most people use it. It supports you when you want to come up with amazing effects. Besides, the solution helps you to wash off ink from your brush and hands.

Naturally, you must also have a canvas. This is where you will be practicing or learning your artistic skills. The best canvasses include metal, glass, shrinking film, gloss paper, primed wood, and ceramic. For learning purposes, consider buying some Yupo paper. It is quite popular in the community that loves this type of art. Again, you might need to do some reading up.

Use a pencil or pen and trace out an outline of a preferred picture. Your picture could be a hill, a mountain, a flower and so on. Thinking too much is one of the biggest mistakes people learning this craft keep on making. Allow yourself the luxury of free imagination. Put some drops of your medium on paper, and then use your brush to soak it all up. Then, proceed to fill the outline.

Since you are aiming at an abstract look, paint freehand. Typically, the material you are using is used to develop abstract art. For the best results, forget about being organized and orderly for a while and let your imagination flow. Different hues can be used to create different work each time. Darker colors result in brooding artwork while brighter colors let you create happier pieces of art.

Get several drops onto the painting material, forming a small pool. Use your brush to make light strokes, spreading it all out. Watch how the medium dissipates and bleeds. Continue with this process until you have the kind of effect you seek. Apply the blending solution on top of the medium, and see how well it reacts to it. Before it dries up, eliminate any color you do not want.
