Tips For Choosing An Elvis Tribute

By Essie Osborn

It was John Lennon who famously said that before Elvis there was nothing. While it is true that country, blues and rock and roll existed before him the fact is that all of these genres converged when this act was created. This is why today an Elvis tribute remains one of the most in demand impersonators for events.

Before choosing an impersonator you need to think about what your event is. You may love Elvis but if it is not appropriate you should not have a tribute act for the event. It depends on whether the event is formal or casual. An act you would choose for a wedding would probably different for something for a county fair.

However a lot of people associate The King with his Vegas comeback show. This was the man who confidently strode in the white rhinestone jumpsuit. He flung himself around with incredible energy, showing to a world that was starting to forget him that he was a star and ensured pop culture immortality.

However when people tend to think of Elvis they tend to associate him with the Vegas era. Even people who are not aware of his music will know the rhinestone jumpsuit, the big sunglasses and the karate chops in the middle of the chorus of Suspicious Minds. Arguably this is the kind of impersonator you get for people who may not necessarily be familiar with the pre army incarnation.

What you choose depends on the audience. An older audience is more likely to want the early Sun Records performer while younger audiences are more likely to enjoy the later Vegas years. There is no right or wrong but this should help you to narrow down the options when comparing performers to choose something that will work best for your event.

This is something you can find out on a website. Some performers will work with an agency while others will be independent. In both cases it should be possible to get details or watch videos in order to find out more about their skills and the kind of performance they will do and whether or not that performer is appropriate for your event.

Once you have narrowed it down to three potential performers you should see them in person. This will give you the chance to discuss details about your own event and to gauge whether or not they are appropriate for that event. You can find out what they are prepared to do and what they will charge for their services. Remember to find out if all the costs are included such as insurance and travel costs so you can compare the various performers.

It is also important to ask the right questions in terms of their experience. Ideally you want someone who is a recognised tribute act or someone with years of experience who can demonstrate that they have had a number of successful events. It is also worth looking online to get feedback from people who have used the services of impersonators and tribute acts in the past to find the ideal one for your event.
