The Value Of Venetian Shoe Cream

By Eula Nichols

Venetian shoe cream has been available since 1907 and is still popular today. Made by a small Chicago firm called C. A. Zoes, it contains cleaning agents combined with waxes and oils. This means it has more than one purpose and is used to clean, condition and shine shoes.

Leather, unlike rubber or synthetic fibers, needs to be treated with great care to look its best. Think of it as the covering of a living animal, receiving all the oils necessary to keep it soft, pliable and breathable. No wonder it becomes stiff and dry when not treated. The main culprits are heat and caked on mud. Continued flexing of dirty, brittle leather causes a breakdown of fibers and cracking.

A little preventative maintenance can prevent this from happening. Leather must have lubrication to breathe and there are many different products on the market used for this purpose. Selecting the correct product for the type of leather is very importance. It is also important to use it consistently to ensure that it keeps them from drying out.

The label of this product reveals that it works on calfskin, kid and patent leather. Horween Leather Company, a name associated with high quality leather products, recommends it for use on their Chromexcel and Shell Cordovan leathers. This recommendation has contributed to its popularity. It should not, however, by used on nubuck or suede leather.

The product is available from online vendors. Buying such a product online and having it shipped, is still relatively inexpensive in comparison with the cost of some products of this kind. There is a 32oz tin with a great retro look available for those with an addiction to shoes and many shoes to polish. However, there are also smaller bottles of 5oz available as well.

The consistency is fairly thick, making it easy to apply. Many people tend to use too much product and in fact only a small amount needs to be used at a time. Surface dirt needs to be removed and the bottle shaken before application. It can be applied evenly with a cloth or worked in with fingertips if this is preferred. To produce a high finish, all that is required is buffing with a soft, dry cloth.

The product can enter the brogue holes on shoes when applied. Do not be concerned about this as long as it is brushed before leaving too long. One of the reasons why it needs to be applied sparingly as it contains turpentine which can remove some of the polish.

Even older shell shoes that have been dull for years and might be rather dry, respond to treatment with this product. Its neutral color means that it works well on all colors of leather and this is helpful when it comes to two tone shoes. Venetian shoe cream offers you the opportunity to treat your shoes and boots they way they deserve to be treated at a reasonable cost. They will thank you for this and look great for many years to come.
