Selling Your Original Abstract Paintings At A Local Art Fair

By Juliette Cruz

If you are just starting off as an artist and you have an array of original abstract paintings that you might like to try and sell, one good way to do that is by getting involved with a local art fair. In order to do this however, you will need to be prepared and have some sort of an idea on how this works and how to sell your items.

To be able to sell your original abstract paintings, it is going to take research, good planning and a lot of your personal time at the fair trying to sell your work. You will need to be friendly and always have an inviting smile on your face to get the attention of a buyer. Just displaying your work is not going to get the job done.

When researching art fairs you can contact your City of Commerce, check online for any local listings or you can get in touch with other artists in your area and see where and when they get involved with art fairs in the area. Make sure to write down the dates and any registration information that you are going to need.

It is a good idea to visit an art fair prior to registering as an artist for one. This will provide you with a wealth of information that you can use to help sell your art at one of these events. By visiting one you will be able to see how booths are set up, the kind of customers that visit and other information that might be of benefit to you.

If you decide to set up a booth at one of these fairs, make sure that you are able to accept credit cards. This can be easily done through a smart phone or a tablet. You do not want to rely on people bringing cash or checkbooks. More times than not, they are going to want to use a credit card instead. Besides the last thing you want is to hassle with a bad check from someone.

You are going to want to register for the art fair and usually you can do this by going online and registering. If they do not have a website then contact them by phone and see how you register and who you pay.

Once you are registered you are going to need to set up your booth. Make sure to bring enough pieces in different sizes from small to big pieces so that you have enough variety for all who come by to look at your specialized art work. You do not want to just offer the higher priced pieces but a variety of prices in order to attract a variety of customers.

One final note. Make sure that when you set your original abstract paintings up, you do so in an organized yet attractive manner. You also will want to make sure that the art work is set up a lone in its own area and not by where you will be making the transactions for the pieces that are sold.
