Creative Ideas For Making Holiday Wreaths

By Shawna Trujillo

Holiday wreaths add charm and beauty to one's home. They are welcoming and for many people the holidays are just not complete without one. While buying one already made is an option, you can also design and make your own. This way you get something that fits in with your home's style. You are sure to get exactly what you want, you also have fun doing it. These are very easy to make. Once you get started and see how much fun and how easy this is, you won't want to stop.

Skip the circles. When you are buying your form, there is no rule that it must be round. Traditionally, they were round but these days they can be square, diamond shaped or even heart shaped. Use the shape that you like most. Small squares look wonderful in windows.

If you are using something other than greenery you may want to use something else as a form. For example if you are making a candy wreath, florist wire will work well. For a beaded wreath a Styrofoam base would work best. You should think about the type you would like to make before heading to the store.

Begin bundling greenery into small bundles that can be wired on to the wire frame that you purchased. Continue doing this until the entire frame is covered. Be sure that it looks full and luxurious. You do not want to see any wire whatsoever.

Another idea that uses wire or even a wire coat hanger bent into a circle is a candy wreath. Use hard candies. Red and white peppermints look nice and fit in with the season, but you can use any that you like as long as they are wrapped. Tie groups of three or four candies together with a piece of thin ribbon. Then tie the ribbon to the form. Continue in this way until the entire form is covered. Make a pretty ribbon bow and attach it. Kids love these.

Greenery is not just for your wreath. You can also make swags. These are also stunning when used in the home. You can easily fashion these just by wiring some pieces together. Place them around your home where they can add some unexpected color and beauty.

Let the kids help. While some aspects may be difficult for them, there are many things that they can help with. Bundling pieces of candy for a candy wreath for example. You will not only be making gifts and decorations, but you will also be making memories. During the holidays making memories is the most important thing that you can do.

Holiday wreaths are fun and easy to make. You can easily take one of these ideas and customize it for your home or the homes of friends and family members. They make great gifts for teachers, coaches and neighbors. Have fun with it and use your imagination to come up with even more unique ideas for your home.
