The Simple Way To Positively Play The Game Of Texas Hold'Em

By Georgann Slaven

Texas Holdem is a type of poker game that has been around for awhile now, but only recently has gained popularity. The game may be hard for some people to master, but it is relatively easy to catch on once one knows the strategies involved. This article will explain how to play Texas Holdem Poker (THP).

When the game begins, every player receives two cards. Then, a bank of cards is placed in the middle of the table. This begins with three cards, known as the Flop, proceeds with the one card Turn, and finally ends with a one card River. Each player will, at each progression of this bank of cards, either check, bet, raise, or fold. One wants to build the most solid poker hand based on the cards in his or her hand coupled with the cards on the table. The player that has the best poker hand, or the player who can bluff the best, will win that particular hand. The last person left with all the money at the end is the winner.

There are many different strategies to utilize that will not only dictate what type of player one will be, but also tells opponents how they will need to play. One strategy, loose-passive, means that players play nearly every hand whether or not it is good, and either check or call each time around. This player has more opportunities to win, based strictly on number of chances, and thus, more opportunities to lose.

Tight-passive strategists play mostly stronger hands, but they won't bet or raise a bet unless another player does. This strategy can be beneficial, but to win, he or she has to bet and not allow his or her game to be read by opponents. This is crucial if one wishes to win.

Another style of playing is loose-aggressive, meaning he or she bets on just about everything, even before the first community cards have been laid. This is also known by the term bluffing. When trying to match wits, this is a great strategy, if seldom played.

The final type of player strategy, known as tight-aggressive, means that a player will only play winning hands, and will always bet or raise pre-Flop. This strategy minimizes the player's risk of loss, but also makes him or her the most readable type of player.

The overall best strategy to win at THP is a combination of these four types. A player needs to keep his or her opponents guessing. Also, being in good physical condition is imperative. Games can last for hours, and if not physically fit and mentally acute, can be draining. Patience is a virtue. One is not going to win the whole tournament during the first hand. Keep the opponents guessing! And finally, you've gotta know when to fold 'em.
