Woodstock NY Travel Guide For Something Different

By Eric Long

When one thinks of Woodstock in the United States, images of hippies dancing about to Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens arise. You think of mud and young people covered in this as they slide around before they reach for the sky, celebrating freedom. However, there is a lot more to know about the area. With a Woodstock NY travel guide, you can get a lot out of this beautiful part of New York.

Of course, a lot of people still want to go to Woodstock in order to feel the vibe and the atmosphere which was once present and is still there to some degree. Some of the locals on Tinker Street will make you feel as if you were there. It is great to have a conversation with them about the days gone by.

People go and support musicians, no matter whether they are well known or not. A lot of people are not looking to make it in the big arena. They just want to play for the locals who they usually know. They will play a couple of tunes and have a few beers with their friends afterwards.

Of course, there are bigger concerts organized for well known artists as well. This is something well worth seeing. You can make a vacation of it as well. Once you have been to the concert, you can take a day to stroll around Tinker street and buy yourself a souvenir. You can then take a walk on one of the trails or simply go and listen to a musician strumming away at one of the bars.

However, there are certain parts of Woodstock where you will think you are back in the sixties. Here, you will find aged hippies who will be selling their goods. Certain parts are very bohemian. There are some great arts and crafts stores. You won't only find t-shirts here. You can spot some very talented artists here.

If you are looking for a couple of Bohemian spots to hang out, then this would be Tinker street. You can find many homemade products here. The original sellers usually have their own stores here. It is not commercialized. People are always friendly so it is an experience, even if you are going for a stroll.

As you meander through different parts of the town, you will still feel the vibe and the atmosphere that was once present in the sixties and the seventies. You don't find this in many other towns. It is often the people, the music and the art which bring it back to life. This is what makes it feel so alive.

There are great music festivals which are organized at different times of the year. It may be worthwhile booking some time off work to attend one of these. Most people don't go and view musicians because of the quality of the music. A lot of musicians are just passionate about what they do. They may be an old timer and they just like strumming away to the Beatles.
