By Walter Murray

Our home is our safe ground and our comfort zone. We must ensure that we always keep it lovely to look at and that the interior should be refreshing to our eyes. Some of the things that make it beautiful are the furniture, antiques, art paintings and many others.

Artworks are always beautiful. It adds beauty in our homes and makes our interiors look livelier and not boring. Buying some of these artworks, especially those watercolor marine art prints, and displaying them in your home is indeed a good idea.

Paintings vary from sizes, designs and also the medium being used by the painter. There some painter who uses pastel, oil, charcoal and many others. But no matter what these kind of paintings are, the important thing is that we must give it proper care and below are some techniques in doing such.

When handling these items, you must make sure that you will no be able to touch the surface of the painting. Remember that your skin produces natural oils and acids, and once you touch these with your bare hands, the oils will transfer and it may affect the color of your art. The best thing to do is to wear gloves when handling these kinds of items.

Paintings really look good when displayed at your home but beware also as to where you would display it. Avoid displaying them in an area which directly faces the sunlight. Doing this would greatly damage the appearance of your painting. It would discolor the appearance and leaving it a yellowish and dry. Better put it in area that is dark and away from sunlight.

Remember also not to expose your paintings to a spot in you house where there is too much heat. Avoid putting it near the cooking area, back of your refrigerator or any spot where there is extreme presence of heat. The heat will absorb the moisture of your painting, and leaving it dry and unattractive.

When storing those paintings which are not displayed, make sure that you keep it in a dry, clean and dark area. Ensure that the room is always clean and that there is no enormous heat that surrounds the room which could possibly destroy these items. Lie flat those which are not framed and see to it that it is not blocking the way so that it would not be stepped on.

Artworks would usually get dusty through time so make sure that you clean them. Use only a soft feather duster when removing the dust away from your paintings. For picture glasses, do not over spray any cleaning agent unto the glass because it might cause a bit foggy. Use a cleaner that is suitable for those types of glasses.

Avoid the do it yourself repair for paintings if you are not an expert. To be safe, consult someone who can do repairs in the framing of your painting or who could restore the painting itself. Just leave this aspect to the expert because they have wider knowledge as to how they will restore you precious arts so that it can be displayed again in your homes.
