Using Professional Led Moving Head Stage Lights

By Betty Martin

Most bars, clubs and theaters will have some kind of lighting systems installed to enhance the shows they put on. Some will have multicolored cans, three bulb traffic light style units or maybe single white or colored spotlights. The most effective way to create an impressive visual display is to install professional led moving head stage lights at your venue.

These lights come in various sizes and there are many options to choose from when selecting the right ones for your particular venue. They can either be mounted on ceilings or specialist lighting rigs or just left free standing on a dance floor or stage. The units can either be simply sound activated or with some extra equipment they can be programmed or controlled manually.

Stage lighting of this design has enormous flexibility; they can spin through a full 360 degrees and are able to rotate in many directions. Using a variety of LED bulbs in differing colors the operator can achieve any number of hues; adding a second unit can open up the whole spectrum. By linking the system to a DMX controller the number of functions is increased even further.

If the lights are to be operated using just sound activation they will turn and swivel in conjunction with the music or beat. Direction will be random and not controlled and may also alter depending on the volume levels within the room. When they are connected to a control unit they can simply be programmed to operate to a sequence chosen by the programmer.

This type of lighting can be controlled manually via a box as well and this is often very useful when lighting a performer who moves around on stage. Single beamed spotlight effects can be used to illuminate a solo performer and can be moved and kept on them as they move around the stage. Various colors and shapes can also be controlled by the person operating the control unit.

When these lighting units are connected to a DMX box infinite movements and colored patterns can be programmed after a little tuition on how to operate the system. Club or bar logos can be projected onto walls and floors and even small sections of text. The complexity of the effect will depend on the amount of led lights in the units and on how many channels the DMX box has on it.

When installing a more complex system which is fully programmable you will also need the correct type of cable and plugs to connect everything. Any professional lighting system should always be fitted by a trained electrical engineer and checked for safety. Some of the cabling and connectors can be costly but it is advisable to always buy the best quality that is available.

Regular maintenance is extremely important with any kind of professional lighting that is subject to heavy usage. Routine cleaning of lenses and replacement of led bulbs will ensure that the units will last longer and operate more efficiently. The electric motors that control the motion of the units should also be checked at regular intervals, cleaned and kept in good order.
