Austin Best Theaters to Visit

Visitors and residents can both enjoy wealth of brilliant performances from one of the city's distinguished performance locations.

Austin Playhouse

After 11 successful seasons, the Austin Playhouse has proved itself as among the best theaters in the Austin area. The theatre hosts a great range of productions featuring talented artists. The theatre offers 70 seats for its guests and is open year round. The theater has presented productions including the works of Shakespeare, modern comedies, and classics including "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Amadeus".

The Paramount Theater

The Paramount Theater is a respected landmark in Austin. It opened its doors in 1915 as the Majestic Theater. Although the theater was at first designed for vaudeville performances, today the theater presents a variety of shows including ballets, comedies, and musicals.

Salvage Vanguard Theater

The Salvage Vanguard Theater is the top location for great artists from the Austin area. As well as displays by area artists, the theater offers classes and sponsors firms including a puppet company (The Trouble Puppet Company), and a dance company (Spank Dance).

The Symphony Square is home to the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin's oldest performing humanities group. Symphony Square is a compound of 4 limestone buildings and concerthall seating 350. The Austin Symphony plays and presents shows there twelve months a year. Performances include everything from classical concerts to children's sing-a-longs, to the Sarah and Ernest Servant Pops Series.

The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Concert Hall

The Bass Concert Hall is the most important theater in Austin, with seating for 2,900 people. The concert hall offers tours to visitors, showing patrons how a theater operates. The locale hosts performances including the commended musical "Wicked," famous pianists, and prominent dance theaters.

The Long Center for Performing Arts

The Long Center for Performing Arts comprises 1 or 2 upscales venues. In addition to demonstrations by the Austin Lyric Opera and Ballet Austin, among others, the Long Center offers weekly public tours and facility rental.
