A Better Understanding Of Military Adventurism

By Rosetta Drake

Military adventurism is not a topic many are familiar with, unless they spend long hours studying the government and how it takes care of those men and women fighting for their country. Luxuries, and unnecessary risk taking are two key aspects of this topic, both causing debate and effecting more than simply combat overseas. Many say there are pros to this topic, while others vast in the cons.

The money collected from taxpayers is a huge part of this very touchy topic. Without taxpayer money, those serving their country overseas would not have the air conditioning provided to them, or any other luxury provided on their behalf. It has been reported that taxpayers provided roughly twenty billion dollars to provide just the air conditioning alone to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, in 2012.

Where does the money come from to allow branches to be so adventurous? Not just taxpayers, but from ally countries as well. Soldiers are suppose to be sent to combat in order to protect and save, not to rebuild and change. Taking down the enemy before they strike at home, unfortunately, this policy has been ignored since 1945, and even still, no official does anything to make the necessary changes.

When mission objectives change, it causes troops to have to remain in the assigned location, or travel to a new location, causing more money to be needed for travel. The original mission of a soldier, back in 1945, was to seek out the enemy and destroy, before the enemy made its way to its target, no mare, no less. But for irrational reasons, and even reasons beyond explanation, mission objectives change, more luxuries are requested, adding to the debts already implied.

For many officials these mission changes are considered irresponsible methods of action and policies. With mission change comes the willingness to take unnecessary risks, even more debt owed to ally countries, and troops being away from home even longer, for, in many cases, no rational reason. For those officials for this, it is simply a matter of being a super power with the options of creating governments, in other countries.

In today's eye, one can sign up to be a soldier, and get their training and travel at the expense of taxpayers. While serving, get discriminated against, and be given leave, full pay and benefits, plus a civilian job, with no questions asked. These procedures are considered irrational to many, but keep the reputations of government officials superior, cause and effect.

With six hundred and sixty three billion dollars spent militarily, one has to ask where all the funds come from. No rational budget is allotted enough to spend that much in a years time on unnecessary adventures and luxuries. These funds have been reported as loaned from other countries, in which the debt must be repaid.

One may be shocked to know that there are men and women associated with combat that do not even understand the concept of military adventurism, because this is simply how it has been for so long. In order for anyone interested to find out even more concerning this topic, research is highly recommended. Online search engines can help, or speaking to different seasoned members of any branch can help as well.
