The work that these artist produce capture the feel of island living. Bajo el sol is an art space located at Mongoose Junction and close to the Cruz Bay Ferry Dock. The site occupies three rooms and features many wonderful pieces by artist who live there. It was established in 1993. Bajo el sol has won awards as the best art space in st. John.
There is an artist who lives on their sailboat 6 months during the year and creates very ethereal paintings; another artist creates exquisite paintings and collages. You can also see unique and functional pieces taken from the human form and things found in nature.
Located in Wharfside Shopping Mall is the Galleria del Mar. Established in 1999, they feature one major artist who is known for his imaginative and inspiring still life paintings. This is just a hint of the creativity on the island.
Syzygy's art spot is located in Coral Bay. The name Syzygy means the display of the sun, the earth, and the moon in a straight line. In the past, this setting has won the best of the Virgin Islands award from 2006 to 2008. Check out the flowing pieces of art that are done by an incredible water colorist. Here you will also see whimsical color pieces in oil, along with pieces done in pen & ink, watercolors and polymer clay.
