Custom Portrait Painting From Photo: A Niche Market For The Light-hearted

By Christine Barnes

Becoming a photographer that specializes in newborn photography can be quite challenging. It has its ups and downs as with any other shoot however, it can help you tremendously if you are a parent yourself, as well as a patient person. Custom portrait painting from photo is the final item to complete your house after you become a parent.

Before you even start to consider this, you need to confirm whether you love being around babies. The reason for this is that when you feel a connection with the baby and the mother, it becomes much easier to take pictures that are outstanding. If you are not one of these people, it is easy to see that you are a disconnected photographer just by looking at the images that you take.

Apart from emotion, you need to make sure that you are completely patient. This is for both baby and the mother. If you take a shoot for someone who has jus become a mom, keep in mind that they are still tired and they can t move around as fast as you need them to. Also, babies tend to cry often and if this happens, you need to be willing to wait it out and continue once the baby is asleep again.

To save time especially if the family indicates that the infant isn t a very quiet one, you may want to discuss the styles you offer. For many in the industry, they tend to offer any type that you need however, for new-comers, they usually start off with one type. This needs to be clear from the start to avoid any misunderstandings.

As with the style that you offer, you also need to include whether you feel a photographer who goes to the family s home. This is a tricky on because when you offer pictures that involve the baby being in his or her home, it means you have to be there. Alternatively, you may stick to portraits and create a room in your studio or home which allows for decor in which the infant will be placed.

If you are just starting out, make sure that you don t over-charge clients. This is key especially when you feel brand new to the industry and are still trying to build a customer base. If you are not sure on where to start, perhaps you can speak to fellow photographers or you can pay for a business advisor to see you through the introduction of your career. They can help with these types of decisions.

Always make sure that you have top end equipment. There will be times when you may be criticized by clients and may even lose clients because you are not up to date with technology. Making the investment is worth the money that you will spend and it will help you to create better images that will in turn, help to build your brand.

Sticking to this style is not your only option. In fact, if you feel wise you can make it one of your many offerings. This will enhance your career and you can grow by being able to offer more.
