The Origin And Spread Of Reggae New York

By George Brooks

Beyond any reasonable doubt, reggae is inspirational, great, and popular to many a people across all generations, hitherto. It is diverse and ultimately derivers rather rational messages, something that is not seen in many other music genres. This is one of the reasons that have made it remain relevant through the test of time. It began in Jamaica back in 1966, and has since then become a force to reckon with, musically-speaking. Reggae New York subsequently developed and dominated myriad masses and audiences, until today.

Its massive growth can be further supported by the fact that it has been able to spread in many countries across the globe, more often than not incorporating local instruments, fusing with other music genres and styles. For example, Reggae en Espanola spread from South America Caribbean, from Guyana and Venezuela, to the whole of South America.

This was called Reggae en Espanola. The fusion of other music styles into the music, made it popular to wider audiences, and like in this case, it had no specifications and was largely dominated by artists in this field who were affiliated to Latin America.

The music also has a notable presence in Veracruz in Mexico. Some of the most reputed Jarocho reggae group includes Los Agues, from Xalapa. Examples of the most famous and popular groups of this genre across Latin Americas usually come from Southern Cone, for example Chilean band, Argentinian Los Cafres band, and Gondwana. Puerto Rican is a band that is also noteworthy, in the region.

In U.SA, certain factors also led to the bushfire spread of genre of this type. One of the key factors is the strong and influential groups or bands that sprung up. They were commonly referred to as Pacific Dub, or otherwise Cali Reggae. America strongholds in of the genre are based in South California, and notable acclamation in mammoth cities like Miami, Chicago, Washington DC, Honolulu, and New York.

In Africa, this form of music became largely popular following the visit of the reggae king himself, Bob Marley. His visit to Zimbabwe in 1980 tremendously facilitated the acknowledgement and acceptance of that music in the African continent, and till today, the love for this music has not dwindled, but is doubling by the day.

Popularity for such music actually gained momentum through icons like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and also Bunny Wailer. They fostered the growth of the music fundamentally, and together formed a band called The Wailers, through which the music spread largely. The band grew to be the most influential and recognized music bands, and it made the transition across all the three stages of traditional Jamaican popular music, namely rocksteady, reggae and ska.

It would be unfair to fail to mention some reggae kings and icons of all times. The likes of Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, John Holt, Dan Carlos, Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Eric Donaldson, all late, indefatigably brought radical changes in this kind of music scope, and music fanatics respect them for making the sensational music great and forever relevant.
