Selecting A Pearl Harbor Historian

By Marci Glover

When people are looking for help from someone who knows a lot about the Second World War, they will want to do plenty of research. By tracking down a good Pearl Harbor historian, individuals can find out all they need to know about this era in the history of a nation. If they want to write something up, they can use the new information to produce a book or article.

When men and women are looking for good historians, they should first look at credentials. Professionals who have degrees from top-notch universities will usually work quite well. These people will have been through a rigorous course of study and will know everything there is to know about the opening battles of the Second World War.

The event itself was at first shrouded in mystery. The Japanese conducted a surprise attack from planes that came in from the west. The Americans sustained hundreds of casualties and the fleet in the Pacific was crippled for quite some time. The country eventually recovered, however, and went on to win World War II.

Many people go to the area to learn about the ships that were sunk in 1941. The USS Arizona is one of the most famous wrecks. It sits at the bottom of the harbor. In fact, the whole bay is a memorial to the lives that were lost that day. People come from all around the world to view these artifacts. For this reason, they should be treated with respect.

The tales of the survivors are also interesting. While many of them were badly wounded, a fair number of them reenlisted when they could. With other servicemen, they helped win the war for America and its allies. Many of the accounts from these survivors have been set down on oral history collections. They can be found in colleges and universities throughout the country.

Visiting the memorial is not hard. If people wish to travel to Hawaii, however, they should try to book their trips months in advance. This way, they can get the best possible deal on airfare. Once they see the memorial area, they will surely want to return later in life to show it to their friends and family members.

Some historians have chosen to write books and articles on the topic. By going to the local library, people should be able to find all the information they need. A variety of book stores will also contain a fair amount of information on the battle. By looking through the catalogue, people can track down the works that intrigue them.

In the end, finding a good historian is quite easy to do and not all that hard to accomplish. With the right amount of research, people can track down someone who knows all about the war. They can then find out about the experiences the sailors and soldiers had on that day in 1941.
