A few months ago, Karan Johar's latest production Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was released, marking the directorial debut of Shakun Batra. Previously, Karan had debutant Karan Malhotra direct Agneepath, a retelling of the original released in 1990. The 2012 remake stars Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. Karan Malhotra has also worked as an associate-director with Johar for the film My Name Is Khan.

For this fresh new actor, the film is a dream start. Not many newcomers hit the silver screen under big banners like Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. Siddharth says, "Sometimes, I'm a bit nervous. But at most times, I'm confident. I have landed a dream debut. Karan, according to me, has the safest pair of hands in the film business." And that's not where it all stops for Siddharth.
Karan Johar, the son of the late Yash Johar and proprietor of Dharma Productions, has always considered Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan as his lucky mascots. While rumors of a guest appearance by Shah Rukh Khan have been riding the high wave, Kajol will do a cameo in one of the tracks. Karan has also stated before that he will stick to the "tradition" of featuring her in his films and will continue with the same for his upcoming release.
And that's not all, Karan Johar has also produced films for Punit Malhotra (I Hate Luv Storys), Renzil D'Slive (Kurbaan), and his assistant director Siddharth Malhotra (We Are Family). Malhotra has in the past assisted worked for the film My Name Is Khan, directed by Karan Johar himself. Siddharth Malhotra will now make his first on-screen appearance for Johar's fifth directorial venture, the film "Student of the Year".
Student of the Year will release on the 19th of October later this year. The film chronicles the lives of three students at a school participating in a one-of-a-kind competition.
