Web Designing: The Importance Of Sticking To The Standards Of SEO

By Maicel Durocher

If ranking high on top search engines is the ultimate objective of an online business, it makes sense to integrate SEO (Search Engine Optimization) elements in the navigation design of a webpage. This is because search engines, particularly the organic ones, have a distinct set of programs in ranking websites.

But before we proceed to the elements of Search Engine Optimization, it is necessary to delve a bit on the two types of search engines: organic and paid. The distinction between paid and organic search engines can be best explained by looking at the search engine result pages (SERPs).

Websites that are labelled with "Sponsored Link" indicate that they are submitted to paid search engines. On the other hand, the results with unpaid listings are obviously generated from organic search engines. Online businesses choose the latter because they want to avoid issues relating to hard selling.

Going back to the main topic, we now determine what the right SEO elements are. First off, SEO can be divided into two main parts: on-page and off page optimization.

On-page optimization (meta tags, website URL, internal linking) refers to web content optimization. Once web developers are done with optimization of web content, web developers pay attention to backlinks or the authoritative links that help in bringing volumes of traffic to your website.

Domain names are also included in the elements of Search Engine Optimization. In naming a domain, online businesses have to pick a word or phrase that acts like a brand name. This way, Internet users can easily identify them from their competitors.

Then, never underestimate the power of keywords. Search engines use unique software called spider that "crawl" from one webpage to another. It collects key phrases that hold important meanings to every website. The collected keywords are then placed on search engine's listing of directories.

Lastly, never underestimate the power of web content. Unique, compelling and relevant content helps in maximizing the traffic to your website. This therefore serves as a reminder to web developers that content should not be created entirely for Search Engine Optimization, but partly for Internet visitors' satisfaction too.
