People are drawn towards the mystic but find that city of Beaufort is more than simply a pretty face. Long known generally as a sportsman's nirvana, Beaufort offers top class boating and fishing, is in spitting distance to top flight golf courses and has some of the best hiking in the region at Huntington Island State Park. For those more inclined to a nightlife setting, Savannah, Hilton Head, and Charleston are a short drive away, and Savannah can be reached in a bit more than an hour as the longest drive.

The township's rich history dates back more than half a millennium to adventurer Christopher Columbus. Tabby ruins of Spanish searchers and the remainder of armaments lofted later to protect early English colonists against the Spanish can be discovered among the area's marshes, tidal pools and freshwater creeks.

Beaufort is encircled by a military base, farms, and plantation grounds as many of which still stand rebelliously more than one hundred and forty years after Sherman's troops burned lots of the South to the ground near the end of the Civil War. The center of Beaufort falls under stringent preservation guidelines to maintain the dignity and integrity of the antebellum mansions that grace its narrow streets. The consequential district is one of only 3 nation wide historical landmark counties in South Carolina.
