College Students Love Doing Plays In Ga

By Roseann Hudson

Anyone who has the chance to visit Columbus Georgia may want to check out the Springer Opera House or Columbus State University. These two places offer the best plays in Ga. All of the students who attend the University have had the chance to star in such performances as "Hamlet, " "Romeo And Juliet, " "Macbeth, " "The Importance of Being Earnest, " "My Fair Lady, " Death of A Salesman" and "Equus."

One male student could not wait to star in the production of "Hamlet" since this was his favorite play written by William Shakespeare. He found the story to be very interesting and all of the characters were quite three dimensional. His teacher had been preparing him for the major role for a full semester and he was ready to take the stage with full force.

"Romeo And Juliet" received great reviews when this senior student co-starred in it. He could not accept the idea of the characters killing themselves but he still thought that the character of Romeo was interesting. This male student has also formed an organization on campus to get more pupils involved with the theatre department. In his spare time he is always preparing himself for the production of "Hamlet."

He considers himself to be a very serious actor who can tackle any role with style. Luckily he will be able to show off his talents at The River Center which has been around for a short period of time. The University decided that their drama and music students were special and they deserved a grand building for their performances. Every person around town knows that the Springer Opera House was the place to attend years ago.

The role of Juliet was portrayed by a talented young lady who looks forward to her years as an actress. She is currently working on her character of Lady Macbeth. This is one character that she truly admires and wishes that she had not come to a tragic end. Every human being has always been fascinated by this crazy character who influenced her devoted husband. She also knows that during these productions there are always writers and film critics sitting within the audience.

If the male and female students are lucky they will have a chance to move to New York or California one day. These two states are the best places for young actors who want to earn large amounts of money. Fortunately Columbus will still have many of the older actors who work for the Springer Opera House. These are the people who are a part of this community and they will never leave. A grand lady living within this area works for this theatre every year.

She has done "My Fair Lady" on many occasions and really enjoys playing the ditzy lead character. She is a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn and believes that this particular actress played the part well. The older woman can really relate to Eliza Doolittle since she herself grew up poor and married a wealthy man. This play shows that dreams really can come true.

Eventually the conservative town of Columbus may be looking at a change within their theatre productions. One very bold drama teacher would like to produce and direct a certain disturbing production called "Oedipus."
